FUNDRAISING FOR THE FUTURE

Birmingham Hippodrome prides itself on the work it undertakes with young people and the community.  Our fundraising efforts are now focused on expanding these valuable projects.

As an unsubsidised, independent charity, we hope that with your help, and with the generous support of our patrons and other partners, we can keep creating many meaningful experiences for thousands of participants.

EDUCATION:

We engage with up to 5,000 school children annually through education projects both at the theatre and in schools, usually with a performance element or visit to a show included.  Experiences include workshops, literacy weeks and theatre days.

ACCESS FOR ALL:

Reduced ticket prices: Around 25% of our patrons purchase tickets at a concession rate through education, audience development or access initiatives.  These include those aged 16 and under, full-time students, patrons aged 60+, disabled patrons, benefits claimants and group bookers.

Behind the scenes: Each year hundreds of patrons discover the inner workings of the theatre during our popular backstage tours.

It's fun finding out more: Including open rehearsals, FREE question and answer sessions and cast introductions. Our hugely popular pre- and post-show talks are great opportunities to gain better understanding and enjoyment.

Assisted performances (captioned, signed and audio-described): Almost every show is made accessible to all by the facilities used for our captioned, signed and audio described performances.

Touch tours: We take visually impaired patrons backstage giving them the opportunity to explore the set, props and costumes with the aid of a theatre guide.

IN THE COMMUNITY:

Our role of presenting the best in arts and entertainment isn’t limited to the main stage.  We are committed to providing theatrical experiences in a range of outdoor and unusual settings, whether this is in our foyers, within the Southside area, or further afield across the city.

Programmes include: FREE outdoor events such as Six Summer Saturdays and last summer's London 2012 Festival project The Voyage, offstage exhibitions programme, and talks about the history of the theatre.

FEEDBACK FROM PARTICIPANTS...

“Today we went to Birmingham Hippodrome for an educational trip . I did enjoy the experience because it was interesting to learn different things on and off stage.”  Becky

"I really enjoyed the trip this morning. The best parts for me were going onto the stage, going in the dressing room and just looking around the Hippodrome. Thank you for showing us around." Gurpreet

"Thank you for welcoming us to the Hippodrome and for showing us how the sound and lights work backstage. Thank you also for showing us some of the props and dressing rooms. I couldn’t imagine how actors cope with everyone looking at them, so many faces. I might decide to do that one day." Bilal
