This unique Award was made to Stuart at a ceremony held in Manchester. The judges said the Award was made in acknowledgement of Stuart’s achievements both at the theatre and to the city’s wider communities.

Birmingham Hippodrome is the most popular theatre in the UK welcoming over 500,000 visitors every year to a rich mix of ballet and opera, musicals and drama, comedy and international dance, plus the UK’s biggest Pantomime. The theatre is an independent, not-for-profit, registered charity receiving no public subsidy. Stuart has been Chief Executive since 2002.

In addition to his role at the Hippodrome, Stuart is leading the Southside Business Improvement District initiative which will transform the heart of Birmingham’s entertainment quarter; Stuart also Chairs the Birmingham Arts Partnership and was part of the presentation team for the City of Culture Bid in Liverpool earlier in the week.

As Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome, Stuart has set out an ambitious Prospectus for the Theatre’s future development which will see the UK’s most popular theatre further secure its integral position as the centre for popular theatre, dance and culture in the city.

Commenting on the Award, Stuart Griffiths said:

“I am delighted to be recognized by Ernst & Young like this. All the nominees, across a wide range of categories, are truly inspirational business people with some amazing achievements.

“I am very pleased that the Hippodrome’s work was highlighted and that the judges recognised the sense of entrepreneurship that exists within the cultural and creative industries.”
